Monticello in Summer
www.monticello.org
The Green Man advises that the traditional "Dog Days" of Summer run July 3rd to about August 11th, and they mark, often, the hottest time of the year. This period of sustained heat and becalmed air occurs as the "Dog Star," Sirius, rises each morning with the Sun.

Sirius, the Dog Star
The Green Man uses this time, when gardening is often made impossible, to spend time indoors, staying cool and making plans for new Spring bulbs. And that recalls one of the Green Man's favorite bulb resources: John Scheepers. Visit his website for a few online specials and other treasures to augment your selections for bulb planting this Fall.

Pink Large Cupped Narcissus Sentinel
"New! Standing straight up and looking at you, this long-lasting 1972 Grant Mitsch hybrid subtly changes its intricate coloration as it
matures. The barely open bud can appear golden-yellow, yet
the flower opens with its ruffle-edged cup detailed with
varying rings of saffron-apricot to salmon-pink around a
luminous green eye~all against a 4 1/2”, overlapping white
perianth. It shades-of-pink cup pales as it matures, often
fading to an ivory cup with a pale pink rim toward the end
of its show. Limited supply. 26”. (8462)"
